Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to the Hood River area?

For our guests not within driving distance, we recommend flying into Portland International Airport (PDX), the closest major airport. To get to the Hood River area from PDX, you have a couple different options: rental car, shuttle/taxi/rideshare options, or public transportation.

If you can swing it, getting a rental car is probably the easiest/most convenient option, since this will allow you to get around more easily throughout the weekend. Alternatively, you can reserve a shuttle/taxi to take you from the airport to your destination - check the Local Guidebook page for a list of companies providing this service. Lastly, to get from PDX to the Hood River area via public transportation, take the MAX Red Line train from the airport to the Gateway Transit Center in Portland; from there, take the Columbia Gorge Express to your destination.

Is it feasible to be car-free in the area and still get around relatively easily?

Several options make it easy to enjoy car-free transit in the Columbia River Gorge — eliminating the hassle of planning and parking while reducing congestion. Sasquatch Shuttle takes visitors between popular sites in the gorge; Gray Line of Portland offers gorge tours and hop-on, hop-off shuttles; and Columbia Area Transit provides bus service from Portland (and between several gorge communities). Three segments of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail connect cyclists to several gorge communities and sites, as well.

Which events throughout the weekend are optional?

To make the most out of your time this weekend, we have planned one social event per day where all guests are invited — those events are as follows:

  • Friday, September 25: Cocktail/Dinner Party

  • Saturday, September 26: Welcome Party

  • Sunday, September 27: Dan & Elise’s wedding (ceremony + reception)

  • Monday, September 28: Farewell Brunch

Friday’s Cocktail/Dinner Party and Monday’s Farewell Brunch are completely optional. We’d love if you could make it to Saturday’s Welcome Party, but this, too, is optional - we’ll understand if you can’t make it! Make sure to check out the complete details for each event on the Weekend Schedule page.

What should I do with my free time throughout the weekend?

We want this to feel like a vacation, so please feel free to do whatever you’d like during the non-wedding event times! For a list of recommendations, check out the Local Guidebook page.

Is there a dress code?

Below, we’ve listed the dress code suggestions for events throughout the weekend:

  • Attire for the Cocktail/Dinner Party on Friday, September 25: Smart-casual - attire that’s nice but comfortable and suitable for the outdoor setting (i.e., collared shirts; dark denim; cute blouses; dresses or jumpsuits of any length). Please wear or bring a warmer layer like a blazer or light jacket in case it gets chilly.

  • Attire for the Welcome Party on Saturday, September 26: Totally casual — wear anything you’re comfortable in.

  • Attire for Dan & Elise’s wedding (ceremony + reception) on Sunday, September 27: The dress code for our wedding is formal attire. For men/masculine looks, we suggest suits or shirts & trousers in dark or neutral tones, tie optional. For women/feminine looks, we recommend refined cocktail dresses, modern gowns (midi or floor-length), and elegant pantsuits. Please see the full details under the ‘Attire’ section on our Wedding Day Details page.

  • Attire for the Farewell Brunch on Monday, September 28: Totally casual — wear anything you’re comfortable in.

What will the weather be like?

Once the actual weather forecast becomes available - roughly around September 16, 2026 - we’ll update this section! Until then, here’s some info on historical weather data: Over the past 5 years, weather in this area on September 27 has had an average high of roughly 80° F during the day and an average low of 55° F at night.

Are children allowed?

The short answer is: definitely yes - especially if bringing your kids makes life easier for you/allows you to come to the wedding at all. The longer answer - and the one we have listed on the Wedding Day Details page - is that we’re asking for parents of children 12-years-old and younger to consider leaving your sweet babies at home if at all possible, especially for the wedding day itself.

Do you have a wedding registry?

We have elected not to create a formal wedding registry, though see the page on suggested Wedding Gifts.
